About the Book

Until You're In It is a compassionate guide for dementia caregivers seeking to understand what's happening, what may come next, and how to continue showing up with love. Blending real caregiver stories with expert insight from Kenneth Robbins, the book explores the signs and progression of dementia, changing behaviors, family dynamics, safety concerns, and the difficult care decisions families often face.

Written for spouses, adult children, relatives, and friends, it offers practical guidance without false promises and reassurance without sentimentality. Readers will gain a clearer understanding of how dementia can emerge gradually, why diagnosis is often complicated, how to respond to behavioral changes, when to seek help, and how to care for themselves while caring for someone else. Above all, the book reminds caregivers they are not alone—and that knowledge, preparation, compassion, and connection can make an extraordinarily difficult journey more manageable and meaningful.

Carrie Pierce

Carrie Pierce is an author and leadership and life coach who specializes in helping people navigate complex, high-stakes situations where the path forward isn’t always clear. Her work centers on helping people slow down, think clearly, and rebuild trust in their own judgment.

Caregiving, especially in the context of dementia, calls for that kind of steadiness every day. It’s a heavy and often isolating responsibility. She hopes that this offers a place to land, something that helps caregivers feel more grounded, clearer, and a little less alone in it.
